The Bureau News reports that Russia launched one of its largest aerial bombardments in months on Thursday night, striking multiple Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure with more than 450 drones and 30 missiles. The coordinated attacks left at least one child dead and over 20 people injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the strikes as a “cynical and calculated campaign” intended to cripple critical services ahead of winter, accusing Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian and energy infrastructure.

‘A Calculated Campaign to Break Ukraine’s Spirit’ — Zelenskyy

In his official statement, President Zelenskyy said the overnight assault targeted “everything that sustains normal life,” including power grids, water systems, and communication infrastructure.

“At many critical infrastructure sites, recovery efforts continue following Russia’s strike on the energy sector,” he said. “It was a cynical and calculated attack, with more than 450 drones and over thirty missiles targeting everything the Russians want to deprive us of.”

He confirmed that more than 20 civilians were injured and receiving medical attention. “Sadly, a child was killed in Zaporizhzhia as a result of the attack. My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones,” Zelenskyy added.

Widespread Blackouts and Infrastructure Damage

The strikes caused massive blackouts and water supply disruptions across Kyiv, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa, and Dnipro regions. Other heavily affected areas include Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, and Kherson, where repair crews are currently working to restore essential services.

“In Kyiv, repair crews are working to restore power and water supply. All relevant services are operating wherever needed,” Zelenskyy said, adding that government ministers are providing real-time updates on recovery operations.

Ukraine Appeals for Air Defense Support

The Ukrainian leader accused Russia of intentionally striking civilian infrastructure ahead of the heating season — a repeat of its 2022–2023 winter campaign that left millions without power and heat. He renewed his call for faster Western support, particularly in the supply of air defense systems.

“Together, we can protect people from this terror,” Zelenskyy urged. “What’s needed is decisive action — from the United States, Europe, and the G7 — to deliver air defense systems and enforce sanctions. We count on a response from the G20 and all those who speak of peace yet avoid real steps.”

Global Reaction and Renewed Tensions

The attack coincides with rising diplomatic tensions over renewed discussions on military aid to Ukraine, including long-range missiles and Patriot defense systems. Western leaders have condemned Moscow’s escalation, calling it a violation of international humanitarian law.

Zelenskyy emphasized that defending Ukraine’s airspace is critical not only for national survival but for global security. “The world can defend itself against these crimes. Doing so will undoubtedly strengthen global security,” he said.
