Abuja, Nigeria – The Senate ad hoc committee investigating alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum industry has postponed its public hearing scheduled for September 10 to 12 indefinitely.
The 15-man ad hoc committee, inaugurated on July 22, 2024, and led by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), was tasked with uncovering economic saboteurs in the petroleum sector and scrutinizing billions of dollars spent on refinery turnaround maintenance over the past decade.
Senator Bamidele announced on Sunday night that the postponement is due to “legislative exigencies aimed at further deepening due diligence” and additional consultations. He assured that a new date for the public hearing would be communicated to all stakeholders in due course.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause to stakeholders, but this decision is made solely in the national interest,” the Senate leader stated.
