Lokoja, Kogi State – The Heavy Duty and Haulage Transportation Association of Nigeria (HDHTAN), Kogi State Chapter, expresses deep sorrow over the tragic road accident that occurred in Felele, Lokoja, claiming the lives of six students from the Federal University Lokoja (FUL).

The unfortunate incident, which involved a heavy-duty truck and a mini bus transporting students to their lodges, has left families, the academic community, and the entire state in mourning.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the management, and students of Federal University Lokoja, as well as the entire academic community. May God grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Commitment to Road Safety and Stakeholder Collaboration

The HDHTAN Kogi State Chapter is committed to ensuring the safety of all road users in Kogi State. In response to this tragic event, we have called for an emergency meeting with:

  • Our association members
  • The SUG Presidents of both Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and Federal Polytechnic Lokoja

The objective is to discuss and implement a lasting solution to the frequent road accidents in Felele, particularly those claiming the lives of students and innocent citizens.

We are ready to collaborate with government agencies, security operatives, and academic institutions to enforce stricter road safety measures, enhance truck driver awareness, and prevent further loss of lives.

Call for Government Intervention

We urge the Kogi State Government, the Federal Government, and relevant transport regulatory bodies to take urgent steps in addressing the persistent road safety challenges in Felele and other high-risk areas in Lokoja. Stronger enforcement of traffic regulations, improved road infrastructure, and designated truck routes could significantly reduce the frequency of such devastating incidents.

Once again, we stand in solidarity with the bereaved families, the students of Federal University Lokoja, and the entire community during this difficult time.

Signed,
Chukwuma Trust O.
Chairman, Heavy Duty and Haulage Transportation Association of Nigeria (HDHTAN), Kogi State Chapter
