NiMet Predicts Widespread Thunderstorms and Rainfall Across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rainfall across various regions of the country from Sunday to Tuesday.

For Sunday, NiMet anticipates thunderstorms in the morning over the northern states, including Borno, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe. These thunderstorms are expected to spread across most parts of the northern region, persisting into the evening.

The North Central region can also expect thunderstorms with rain in the morning, affecting the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States. The weather is expected to remain stormy throughout the day.

In the southern cities, cloudy skies will dominate the morning, with intermittent rain expected later in the day.

On Monday, the forecast indicates morning thunderstorms in parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, and Jigawa states. The thunderstorms are expected to continue into the evening across the northern region. The North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara states, will experience similar weather patterns, with storms persisting throughout the day.

For Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are expected in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States, with cloudy skies predicted for later in the day. The North Central region will also experience thunderstorms and rain in the morning, particularly in Niger and Kwara States, with further storms anticipated in Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States during the afternoon and evening.

NiMet has warned of potential urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall and advises residents in flood-prone areas to take precautions. Additionally, strong winds may precede thunderstorms, and the public is urged to follow safety advisories from relevant authorities.

Airline operators are also advised to obtain specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure safe and effective flight operations.
