The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated as the National Disciplinary Committee, led by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi, has recommended the expulsion of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Senator Anyanwu, an ally of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has been embroiled in a judicial tussle over the PDP’s National Secretary position.
In a letter addressed to the PDP acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, the disciplinary committee stated that Senator Anyanwu failed to appear or defend himself against a petition filed by the Young Generation Caucus of the party, despite being given the opportunity.
The Ikimi-led committee stated:
“Having listened to the petitioners and the evidence presented, including the oral testimonies of Mr. Afolabi Adekanbi and Dr. Alex Adum, it was established that Senator Samuel Anyanwu engaged in anti-party activities.”
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had set up the disciplinary committee to address internal conflicts that have plagued the party since the 2023 presidential election, ensuring that all sides are heard before making recommendations to the National Executive Committee (NEC).
