Court Order Freezes Local Government Allocations
On September 26, 2025, Justice A.L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court granted an interim injunction restraining United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc from releasing statutory funds belonging to Osun’s 30 local governments. The order followed a suit filed by the Attorney General of Osun State and the Osun State Local Government Service Commission.
The court held that urgent intervention was necessary “to prevent irreversible harm,” pending the hearing of the motion on notice scheduled for October 3, 2025.
Political Fallout and Allegations
Meanwhile, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Osun accused federal authorities of conspiring to divert public funds to pay sacked local government officials, calling for the removal of the Attorney General of the Federation, the CBN Governor, and the Accountant General of the Federation. The party cited Sections 162(6)&(7) of the 1999 Constitution to argue that local government allocations must pass through the State Joint Local Government Account, warning against any direct payments.
