Nigeria News Today: Suspected terrorists have attacked Idofin community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and leaving another seriously injured.

The attack reportedly occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

Sources disclosed that the deceased was identified as a Tiv man, while another indigene of the community sustained severe injuries during the assault.

According to a local platform, Egbe Mekun, the injured victim was later evacuated by military personnel and taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kogi State Government nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Residents of the area have continued to express fear over the worsening security situation in Yagba East, calling on the Kogi State Government and relevant security agencies to urgently beef up security in the affected communities to prevent further attacks.

The Bureau News recalls that Ayetoro-Kiri community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State was recently thrown into mourning following the confirmation of three deaths among residents who were earlier abducted by bandits.

Reports indicated that although seven abductees were eventually released after a ransom was raised through communal efforts, three of them were already dead on arrival, while four others were hospitalised and are currently battling for their lives.

Meanwhile, about 30 residents of the Ayetoro-Kiri community were said to still be in captivity, with their fate remaining uncertain.

In a statement signed by the community’s spokesperson, David Ampitan, the residents lamented that instead of decisive action to rescue abducted victims and pursue perpetrators, authorities allegedly responded by dispersing and arresting peaceful protesters who were demanding security and justice.

The statement accused the Kogi State Government, acting through the Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, of tear-gassing and arresting protesters during a peaceful demonstration.

The Bureau News reports that residents across Yagba East and Kabba-Bunu continue to appeal for urgent government intervention as insecurity deepens in Kogi West.
