The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dispatched intelligence officers to Banex, a well-known electronics and telecommunications market in Abuja, after a confrontation between soldiers and traders erupted on Saturday.

A viral video circulating on social media platform X showed a large group of civilians overpowering several soldiers in a brawl at Banex.

Attempts to contact the Defence Headquarters and the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

A trader identified as Abdul provided some insight into the incident. “There’s a problem at Banex now. Some soldiers came to complain about a phone, and during an argument with the traders, a fight ensued,” Abdul said.

In response to the altercation, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Benett Igweh, had deployed the FCT Intelligence Response Team to the location.

“The CP has deployed the Intelligence Response Team to the scene,” Adeh confirmed.
