Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed his deep concern for Nigeria’s future, stating that he remains in a hurry to see the country achieve its full potential. The elder statesman added that he is “getting close” to his departure lounge, a metaphorical reflection on his advancing age.
Obasanjo made this remark while speaking about his new book, Nigeria: Past and Future, in which he examined Nigeria’s leadership path, assessing the failures and achievements of past and present administrations.

The former president explained that his writings, speeches, and interventions have always come from a place of patriotism, not hostility. According to him, his aim has been to push Nigeria towards progress and ensure the nation becomes a true giant of Africa.
“My interventions have never been out of animosity but a strong desire to see Nigeria progress,” Obasanjo stressed.
