Muslim organisations in Nigeria, represented by the Supreme Council for Shari’ah (SCSN), conveyed their concerns to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that Nigerians have endured months of suffering during his administration. Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyatullah, the President of SCSN, expressed these sentiments during the organization’s National Conference in Abuja, themed “Matters Arising from the 2023 Election and Associated Socio-Economic Challenges.”
Hadiyatullah voiced apprehensions about the plight of Nigerians, particularly the masses, and lamented the significant increase in the prices of various items in the country.
He pointed out that since President Tinubu assumed office, the suffering of Nigerians has intensified, with items that used to cost 200 naira now being sold at 2,000 naira. He highlighted the current state of Nigeria characterized by cash scarcity, unemployment, and economic challenges.
Despite expressing concerns, the SCSN president urged Nigerians to repent and turn to God for guidance. In his address, former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmad Yerima, focused on the conference’s purpose, addressing issues such as the review of the 2023 elections and the role of Islamic scholars in society.
Yerima specifically highlighted the dangers posed by individuals falsely claiming to be Islamic scholars on social media and urged Nigerians to exercise caution. The conference aimed to address these challenges and draw attention to the perils of following unqualified individuals who misrepresent Islam on digital platforms.
