Kebbi Central Senator, Adamu Aliero, has lauded the Nigerian Army for its relentless efforts in combating insurgency in the North-East and for successfully driving the Lakurawa terrorist group out of the North-West and into Niger Republic.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Senator Aliero highlighted the importance of the military operation, which was bolstered by the intervention of key figures, including Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa.

The senator revealed that the terrorists, emboldened by their presence in villages, were flushed out on Tuesday, November 12, after the military’s decisive response.

“Do you know that they were bold enough to hang around and kept threatening the villagers until our military arrived on Tuesday and pursued them as they ran into Niger Republic?” Mr. Aliero said.

He emphasized that while Nigerian troops adhered to international boundaries, the ongoing military cooperation between Nigeria and Niger Republic could help ensure the complete eradication of the terrorist group.

Preventing a Repeat of North-East Insecurity

Senator Aliero warned of the catastrophic consequences should the insurgency that ravaged the North-East spread to the North-West. He stressed that the region’s larger population, fertile agricultural lands, and economic resources make it vital to secure.

“It’s a war that can be finished within five days, and if we allow a repeat of North-East in the North-West, it would be devastating,” he stated.

The senator also shared that recent attacks in Kebbi State’s Argungu and Augie local government areas prompted federal lawmakers to conduct a fact-finding mission and provide financial aid of ₦10 million to the families of victims.

Confidence in Tinubu’s Administration

Expressing optimism in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Senator Aliero praised the Defence Minister’s approach to addressing insecurity in the region. He called for the continuous deployment of security personnel in affected areas to prevent a resurgence of terrorist activities.

“As elected lawmakers, we will continue to work assiduously with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to keep the country safe, secure, and stable because insecurity does not recognise race, religion, tribe, tongue, or party affiliation. Security is everybody’s responsibility,” he affirmed.

The senator’s remarks reflect growing efforts by lawmakers to support military operations and foster regional stability amidst ongoing security challenges in Nigeria. However, the Army is yet to officially confirm details of the operation.
