In two shocking medical discoveries that have stunned doctors and captured global attention, a 44-year-old man in Tanzania has learned he had been living with a large knife blade lodged in his chest for eight years, while in India, surgeons found a pair of surgical scissors inside a woman’s stomach — nearly two years after she underwent an operation.
The Tanzanian patient was admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital after noticing pus oozing from below his right nipple, despite having no chest pain, difficulty breathing, fever or any other symptoms.
According to The Bureau News findings, doctors were left baffled until the patient recalled being involved in a violent altercation nearly a decade ago, during which he sustained several cuts to his face, chest and abdomen.
A chest X-ray was eventually carried out — revealing a knife blade deeply embedded in his mid-thorax, having entered through the right scapula but somehow avoiding major organs.
Surgeons successfully removed the knife during an operation and drained the infected tissue. The patient spent 24 hours in ICU before being transferred to the general ward, and later discharged in stable condition.
The strange case, published in the Journal of Surgical Case Reports, said the man has recovered fully.
Scissors Discovered in Woman’s Abdomen Two Years After Surgery
Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh, India, doctors have expressed outrage after discovering a pair of scissors inside the abdomen of 44-year-old Kamla Bai, who had been complaining of persistent abdominal pain.
A CT scan, carried out in November 2024, revealed that the scissors had been accidentally left inside her body during a surgical procedure conducted back in February 2022 at Kamla Raja Hospital.
Family members say she had been feeling unwell ever since and are now demanding legal action against the medical personnel involved, describing the incident as “a clear case of negligence”.
Scan technician Satish Sharma confirmed that a “metallic object” was detected in the abdominal region, which turned out to be the missing scissors.
Both cases have reignited concerns about surgical safety protocols and the need for thorough post-operative monitoring.
