The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued what it described as a “final warning” to the Nigerian judiciary ahead of the October 10, 2025 ruling in the trial of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, The Bureau News reports.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group accused the federal government of orchestrating an unending persecution of Kanu and demanded the complete dismissal of the charges against him.
“We are at a decisive moment in the persecution of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Powerful declared. “The world has seen how the Nigerian government keeps breaking its own laws just to detain an innocent man. This must stop.”
‘Legacy on the Line’ – Message to Justice Omotosho
According to IPOB, the ruling of Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, will not only determine Kanu’s fate but also define the judge’s legacy.
“Will you be remembered as the judge who stood on the pillars of law, or as another accomplice in injustice?” the statement asked.
Why IPOB Demands Dismissal of Charges
The group laid out several arguments:

Unlawful Proscription: IPOB argued that its proscription was secured through an ex parte civil order, which cannot create grounds for criminal liability.

Repealed Law: It insisted that the law under which Kanu was charged has already been repealed. “A repealed law is like an expired drug – it is useless,” Powerful said.

Lack of Victims or Witnesses: IPOB noted that no Nigerian citizen has testified that Kanu incited or intimidated them.

Questionable Evidence: The group dismissed the DSS’s submissions as tampered, doctored, and inadmissible under Nigerian law.
‘Case Dead in Law’
Powerful maintained that the case against Kanu has collapsed both in fact and in law.
“The charges are dead in law and rotten in fact. The time for silence is over. The time for action is now,” he warned.
Call to the International Community
The pro-Biafra group also called on the international community, human rights organisations, and global partners to hold Nigeria accountable for what it described as “systematic persecution of an innocent man.”
“We urge the world to watch closely and ensure that justice is served,” the statement read.
IPOB concluded with a stern warning that failure to dismiss the charges would send a clear message that the Nigerian judiciary is complicit in injustice.
“The world will be watching, and history will judge us all,” Powerful said.
