In Nigeria News Today, The Bureau News reports that former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Monday visited the Azikel Group Base and Azikel Refinery in Gbarain, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State to review ongoing work and motivate the project team.
Jonathan was warmly received by Dr. Eruani Azibapu, President of Azikel Group, who personally led him and his entourage on a tour of the refinery’s Inside Battery Limits (ISBL) base unit, which is now 90% complete.
During the visit, the former president expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress achieved so far. He also inspected newly acquired helicopters intended for project supervision and guest transportation to the refinery site.
“The level of work here is commendable. This is the kind of project that will not only boost Bayelsa’s economy but also contribute to Nigeria’s energy stability,” Jonathan noted.
Dr. Eruani assured the former president that, once completed, the Azikel Refinery will significantly enhance Nigeria’s energy supply capacity, starting with meeting the needs of Bayelsa State before expanding output nationwide.
This milestone marks a promising step toward boosting local refining capacity and reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
