The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has issued a clarification refuting reports that it had sacked all Nigerian employees.
Reorganisation Linked to Sabotage
In a statement, the company said the ongoing reorganisation within its facility is not arbitrary, but necessary to protect the refinery against repeated acts of sabotage that have raised safety concerns and impacted operational efficiency.
“The decision was taken in the best interest of the refinery as a result of intermittent sabotage in various units, which posed dire consequences for human life and safety,” the statement explained.
The refinery stressed that it remains vigilant in monitoring its internal systems and vulnerabilities to safeguard the long-term stability of what it described as a strategic national asset.
Over 3,000 Nigerians Still Employed (Nigeria News Today)
Contrary to union claims that all Nigerian staff were disengaged, Dangote Refinery said:

Over 3,000 Nigerians continue to work actively in its operations.

Only a very small number of employees were affected by the restructuring.

Recruitment of Nigerian talent is ongoing through graduate trainee schemes and experienced hire programs.
Commitment to Labour Rights
The refinery reaffirmed its adherence to international labour principles, including workers’ rights to freedom of association and union membership.
“Our commitment to workers’ rights is unwavering,” the statement added.
