🇳🇬 Nigeria News Today: Body of Late IGP Solomon Arase Arrives Benin for Funeral Rites

The remains of retired Inspector General of Police, Solomon Ehigiator Arase, have arrived in Edo State for his final farewell. The Bureau News confirms that the body touched down at the Benin Airport on Saturday aboard a Nigerian Air Force jet, marking the beginning of his funeral ceremonies.
Police Officers Lead Guard of Honour
The casket bearing the late IGP was formally received by senior police officers, led by AIG Zone Five, Garba Salma-Dogo, alongside Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika. Government functionaries were also present as a ceremonial guard of honour was mounted in his memory.
Body Moved to Military Base Hospital
Following the reception at the airport, the remains were transported in an ambulance to the military base hospital in Benin City, where arrangements are ongoing ahead of the funeral ceremonies scheduled to commence on Monday, 28 September 2025.
Final Journey of a Distinguished Officer
Arase, who served as Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, died on Sunday, 31 August 2025, after a brief illness. His passing has drawn tributes from across the country, recognizing his decades of service to the Nigerian Police Force and to the nation.
