The Federal Government of Nigeria, the Brazilian Government, and the Kebbi State Government have initiated a strategic partnership to harness the agricultural potentials of the region, focusing primarily on rice cultivation and livestock production.
This was disclosed by Mr. Tope Kolade, the Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Economic Matters (Office of the Vice President), when he led a delegation that included Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Cleber Oleviera, on a courtesy visit to Kebbi State Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

Kolade lauded Kebbi State’s commitment to agricultural growth, noting that the state’s investment in agribusiness had significantly contributed to economic expansion and food security in Nigeria.
“Kebbi has become a beacon of hope in Nigeria’s rice revolution,” he said, adding that the collaboration with Brazil would help scale up existing efforts in rice and livestock production.
Governor Comrade Nasir Idris expressed readiness to collaborate fully with the Brazilian government, acknowledging Brazil’s global reputation for agricultural excellence.
“The success of Brazil’s economy today is tied to its massive agricultural development. We are committed to borrowing a leaf from this model,” Governor Idris stated.
He reiterated that Kebbi remains the rice capital of Africa, with numerous delegations from across the continent visiting the state to study its farming systems.
Mr. Oleviera noted that their visit to Kebbi was directed by the Brazilian Federal Government to explore areas of mutual interest and investment in Nigeria’s agricultural space, particularly Kebbi State.
He commended Governor Idris for his transformative leadership and assured that Brazil is ready to invest and partner in projects that would enhance food production, create jobs, and strengthen bilateral relations.
