The Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has rusticated 37 students for one academic session over allegations of criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, and cyber-stalking.
According to documents obtained by SaharaReporters, the affected students had created a WhatsApp group to protest the university’s introduction of a third semester. Following a review by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, the university’s Senate approved their rustication at its 123rd Regular Meeting on October 31, 2024.
A letter signed by the Registrar, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed, directed the students to stay off campus unless granted permission. They will only be allowed to return in the 2025/2026 academic session after appearing with their guardians and submitting a letter of good conduct.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions among students and the public. While some view the punishment as harsh and excessive, others argue it is necessary to maintain discipline and order.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and academic integrity, stating that students must engage in peaceful and responsible communication within the institution.
