Lokoja, Kogi State – Kogi State has recorded a notable number of suspected Mpox cases, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). The NCDC’s week 29-32 situation report, released on Monday, August 19, 2024, shows that Kogi reported four suspected cases of Mpox this year. While no confirmed cases or fatalities have been reported in the state, the situation highlights the need for vigilance and precautionary measures.
Nationwide, the NCDC has recorded 39 confirmed Mpox cases across 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2024, with Ogun State reporting the highest number of suspected cases at 141, followed by Lagos with 95 cases, and Bayelsa with 87 cases.
Despite the challenges, 2024 has seen a significant decrease in both suspected and confirmed Mpox cases compared to previous years. The NCDC continues to monitor the situation closely, urging the public in Kogi State and across the country to remain cautious, maintain hygiene, and avoid contact with infected individuals or contaminated materials. Public awareness and community involvement are essential in preventing the spread of Mpox in the state and beyond.
