The former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, is currently being interrogated at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
Kyari Arrives EFCC Office
Kyari, who had previously been placed on the EFCC watchlist, arrived at the commission’s office around 2:30pm on Wednesday, sources confirmed to The Bureau News.
According to officials, the former NNPCL boss is expected to provide detailed explanations regarding funds allocated for the maintenance of Nigeria’s refineries during his tenure.
“Yes, he’s in our office. He will be ushered into where he will face interrogation by the crack detectives of the commission,” a senior EFCC source said.
Frozen Accounts
It will be recalled that the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier ordered a freeze on all bank accounts linked to Kyari following an EFCC request.
The Bureau News understands that Wednesday’s interrogation is part of ongoing investigations into alleged mismanagement of funds within the oil and gas sector.
