Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has hailed the massive defection of opposition members from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ganduje’s home base of Dawakin Tofa constituency.
The high-profile political shift took place at the Government House, Kano, where prominent politicians and their supporters pledged allegiance to the NNPP. Governor Yusuf, visibly pleased, said the defections were proof of his administration’s impactful policies over the last two years.
“Dawakin Tofa is a crucial local government in our struggle, and I am the happiest person for this massive defection from the APC to the NNPP,” Governor Yusuf stated, thanking NNPP National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his support.
The Governor recalled his 2023 campaign tour across all 44 local government areas, where he promised to deliver dividends of democracy to every part of the state. In Dawakin Tofa, he noted recent achievements such as the completion of the long-abandoned five-kilometer road project and plans for a new school.
He assured the decampees of full integration into the party without discrimination, cautioning against intimidation and pledging more development projects.
Governor Yusuf also announced a policy change for the Dawanau International Market, converting it into an agency with a Managing Director and board for more efficient operations. Additionally, he commended the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Chairman, Hon. Anas Danmaliki, for internally generating ₦500 million and completing projects in 15 primary schools while sponsoring over 1,000 students in tertiary institutions.
NNPP State Chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, congratulated the new members and expressed confidence in the party’s future.
“God willing, just as Gwale supported you in 2023, Dawakin Tofa will do even better,” Dungurawa said.
With the 2027 general elections in sight, Governor Yusuf revealed plans for a statewide familiarization tour to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
