Kogi Assembly Suspends Ibaji LG Chairman Over Alleged Misconduct, Sets Up Probe Panel

LOKOJA — Nigeria News Today: The Kogi State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Ibaji Local Government Area, Emmanuel Onuche, over allegations of gross misconduct and actions deemed capable of tarnishing the image of the state government.
The Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusuf, announced the decision during Wednesday’s plenary session, directing Onuche to step aside pending the outcome of an investigation.
Deputy Chairman Takes Over
According to the resolution, Onuche is to hand over administrative responsibilities to his deputy, Mrs. Victoria Okolo, while a probe panel investigates the allegations.
Lawmakers explained that allowing Onuche to remain in office could interfere with the integrity of the investigation. The House then constituted a five-member committee to examine the case.
Assembly Constitutes Probe Committee
The investigative committee is chaired by Hon. Bode Ogunmola (Ogori-Magongo), with members Hon. Ishaya Omotayo Adeleye (Ijumu), Hon. Asema Baba Haruna (Adavi), Hon. Anthony Ujah (Olamaboro), and Hon. Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijani (Lokoja 1). Muhammed Bello will serve as the committee clerk.
The committee was given one month to conclude its investigation and present a report to the House for further legislative action.
Three Lawmakers Defect to APC
Meanwhile, three members of the Kogi State House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the same plenary session. The defectors are:
- Hon. Bode Ogunmola (Ogori/Magongo – PDP)
- Hon. Idowu Ibikunle (Yagba East – ADC)
- Hon. Sunday Daku (Bassa – PDP)
The defections further consolidate the APC’s dominance in the state assembly as political alignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
