Joint Security Operatives, Vigilantes Launch Rescue Mission for 25 Kidnapped Students in Kebbi

KEBBI — Nigeria News Today: Security operatives in Kebbi State, including the Police, military, and vigilante groups, have intensified search and rescue operations for 25 kidnapped female students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko District, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the tragic abduction, which occurred when armed bandits wielding sophisticated weapons invaded the school, shooting sporadically and killing a staff member during the attack.

Police Confirm Fatality, Injuries, and Abduction

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, police tactical units engaged the gunmen in a fierce exchange of fire. However, the attackers managed to scale the school fence and abduct 25 students from their hostels before escaping to an unknown location.

Abubakar disclosed that one staff member, Hassan Makuku, was shot dead, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand.

Security Forces Comb Forests, Bandits’ Routes

Upon receiving the report, additional tactical units, military personnel, and vigilante operatives were deployed to the affected area. The combined forces are currently combing suspected bandits’ escape routes and nearby forests to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators.

“Our operatives are in the field working round the clock to rescue the victims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” Abubakar stated.

Police Commissioner Reassures Public, Urges Vigilance

Reacting to the incident, CP Bello M. Sani, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide useful information that could aid the ongoing operation.

“We understand the gravity of this situation. The Command will not relent until every abducted student is safely reunited with their families,” the Commissioner assured.
