Gunmen Attack Abia Governor’s Convoy In Imo

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has declared that he was safe as fleeing gunmen attacked his advance convoy in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Tuesday morning.

Three people attached to the governor’s convoy were attacked by yet-to-be-identified gunmen around the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Otti, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, who disclosed this in a statement shortly after the incident, however, said that the governor was not part of the convoy attacked.

THE BUREAU gathered that the fleeing gunmen had attacked the advance convoy of Governor Otti while heading to the Airport in Owerri.

The attack occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction.

However, Ukoha said no life was lost and assured that Governor Otti was not harmed.

He said, “in the early hours of today, December 2nd, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen. The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.

“The general public is hereby informed that the convoy of Governor Otti was not involved in this attack, and no lives were lost during the unfortunate incident.”

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command was yet to react to the development as of press time.
