Berlin, Germany – President Bola Tinubu asserted his belief that his transformative initiatives since assuming office on May 29, 2023, merit inclusion in the Guinness World Records. Speaking at the 10th German-Nigerian Business Forum in Berlin, Tinubu highlighted his track record, particularly during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

During the forum, Tinubu proudly stated that under his leadership, Lagos State evolved from ground zero to become the fifth-largest economy on the African continent. Drawing from his experience in the private sector, where he was trained by Deloitte and served as the treasurer of Exxon Mobil, Tinubu positioned his corporate governance expertise as a key qualification for the presidency.

Addressing concerns about potential obstacles, Tinubu encouraged others to consider his journey, emphasizing his eight consecutive years of governance in Lagos as evidence of his leadership capabilities. He expressed confidence that his proven track record set the stage for his presidential aspirations.

“I governed Lagos for eight consecutive years. Today, I can proudly beat my chest that Lagos State is on the horizon and the fifth-largest economy in Africa, rising from zero. This is the track record that led me to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tinubu declared.

Asserting his commitment to reforms, Tinubu claimed that Nigeria voted for him based on his reform agenda. He highlighted that he initiated reforms from the first day of his presidency, aiming to position Nigeria for positive change. Tinubu even humorously suggested that if his accomplishments were not acknowledged in the Guinness Book of Records, he would find a way to insert himself.

Tinubu’s remarks followed the signing of two significant agreements between Nigerian and German companies during the Berlin forum. As the President aims for international recognition, his focus remains on the transformative reforms he believes will shape Nigeria’s future.
