The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its deep sorrow over the tragic loss of Comfort Adebanjo, a cherished member of the party, along with six other individuals, during a devastating stampede at the Nigeria Customs office in Yaba, Lagos. The unfortunate incident occurred as they were attempting to purchase seized bags of rice, part of an effort by the Customs to alleviate the ongoing economic challenges facing the nation.
The sale of these seized food items, initiated on Friday, was designed to provide some relief to Nigerians amidst the harsh economic conditions. However, the event took a tragic turn, leading to the untimely demise of several individuals, including Mrs. Adebanjo.
In a heartfelt obituary message released on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Oluwafemi Fadahunsi, the Coordinator of FKL Ward E1 in Lagos State for the APC, along with Secretary Comrade Adebari Adewale, confirmed Mrs. Adebanjo’s passing. The message conveyed the party’s profound grief and regret over the loss of Mrs. Adebanjo, who resided at house number 104, Ibidun Street by Akinhanmi Street, Ojuelegba.
The APC extends its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of Mrs. Adebanjo and the other victims of this tragic event. The party mourns the loss of these lives and calls for measures to prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring the safety and well-being of all Nigerians seeking assistance during these trying times.
Statement reads;
“She was among the 7 victims who died in the course of buying custom rice at Yaba.
“May God grant all the members of her family and all the residents of WARD E1 the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.”
LIB had reported that a yet to be identified man was trampled to death while trying to buy rice at the Customs office.
