Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has recognized 35 outstanding indigenes of the state for their excellence and contributions across various fields within and outside the state.
The State Banquet in Honor of Distinguished Kano Sons and Daughters, held at the Government House, Kano, was the first of its kind in the state’s history.
Honourees from Various Professions
The 35 awardees included serving and retired military officers, with 19 Major-Generals, as well as professionals from the police, civil service, medical field, and engineering, among others.
While presenting the awards, Governor Yusuf urged the recipients to continue contributing to Kano’s development through their respective fields.
“This is a historic day in Kano State. These distinguished indigenes have excelled through dedication to service, and my government is proud to honor them,” the governor stated.
He emphasized that the event was not politically motivated, but rather an expression of gratitude and encouragement to those who have positively impacted the state.
“The people of Kano need to recognize and appreciate them. That is why we organized this event—to appreciate and motivate them to do much more for the state,” he added.
Governor Yusuf also promised to institutionalize the recognition event, stating that other deserving individuals from sectors like business and religious leadership (Ulamas) would be honored in subsequent editions.
Call for Mentorship and Development
In his remarks, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, the Emir of Gaya, congratulated the awardees and urged them to mentor younger generations to ensure sustained development in Kano.
Speaking on behalf of the honourees, Prof. Galadanchi, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, commended Governor Yusuf for his foresight in recognizing the achievements of Kano indigenes.
He encouraged all Kano-born professionals working across the country and beyond to always have the state at heart and create opportunities for the youth.
With this initiative, Governor Yusuf aims to foster a culture of excellence, appreciation, and mentorship among Kano indigenes for the overall growth of the state.
