Gas Explosion Rocks Sabon Wuse, Destroys Vehicles and Foodstuffs

A devastating gas explosion occurred at Tasiu Gas Plant in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State on Saturday, February 8, 2025, causing extensive damage to vehicles, foodstuffs, and property.

The explosion happened during the offloading of gas from a trailer tanker to a surface tank at the plant, which is situated beside Kalasma Filling Station along the Kaduna Expressway.

The incident comes barely a month after a petroleum tanker explosion at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, raising fresh concerns about safety measures in gas and fuel distribution in the state.

Extent of Damage

According to Abdullahi Baba Arah, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), the explosion occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The fire completely destroyed:

  • The trailer tanker involved in the offloading process.
  • The Tasiu Gas Plant.
  • A nearby car belonging to Abubakar Yakubu.
  • The Ngeil Grains Processing Factory, leading to the destruction of:
    • 550 bags of beans
    • 6 bags of soya beans

No Casualties Reported

Despite the magnitude of the fire, no lives were lost, and authorities have since brought the fire under control.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion, while authorities have urged businesses handling flammable substances to implement stricter safety measures.
