The Nigerian government has revised its recruitment guidelines for the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services, announcing that moving forward, 35 percent of the recruitment slots for these services will be dedicated to women.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this announcement following the conclusion of the Board meeting for the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services in Abuja on Friday, January 19.
Tunji-Ojo, represented by the Secretary of the Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, emphasized that the 35 percent allocation for women aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He stated that the ongoing recruitment process for the Federal Fire Service will adhere to the new guidelines, emphasizing aspects such as professionalism, gender mainstreaming, and adherence to Federal Character principles.
Tunji-Ojo explained, “The federal government, through the Board, has approved the revision of the guidelines for recruitment and promotion in all four services under the Ministry of Interior. This development is part of the comprehensive modernization plan for the operations of the Nigeria Immigration Service, covering training, recruitment, promotion, professionalism, capacity building, and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.”
He issued a warning to Nigerian applicants, urging them not to fall victim to scammers. The government is aware of fraudulent activities where scammers demand money for recruitment into the Fire Service, and Tunji-Ojo assured that these activities are being monitored, and appropriate action will be taken against the perpetrators.
