Kaduna, Nigeria – In a distressing development, Mr. Takai Shamang, a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been abducted in his hometown, Biniki, located in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Shamang, 78, who also served as the President General of the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers, now known as the National Union of Electricity Employees, between 1982 and 1989, was taken from his residence on Friday evening at approximately 8:00 pm.

The abduction was confirmed by Shamang’s daughter, Mrs. Grace Abbin, who informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) about the incident. She expressed deep concern for her father’s safety, noting his advanced age and the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
Shamang is well-known for his humanitarian efforts as the President and Founder of Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans, and Needy Foundation, commonly referred to as the GAWON Foundation. His foundation has been instrumental in providing support and aid to vulnerable groups in society.
The kidnapping of such a prominent figure has heightened concerns about the security situation in the region. Authorities are reportedly investigating the incident and efforts are underway to secure Shamang’s release.
