The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan on Thursday delivered a judgment declining to grant an order of mandamus sought in a case involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the court, granting the application would amount to sitting on appeal over decisions of courts of coordinate jurisdiction, a position it held it could not assume.
Reacting to the ruling, the PDP said it had instructed its legal team to immediately file an appeal and pursue all necessary legal steps to advance its arguments at the appellate level.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP maintained that the faction led by Kabiru Turaki, which emerged from the Ibadan Convention, remains legally valid and unaffected by the judgment.
The party added that it remains confident as it awaits what it described as an authoritative pronouncement from the appellate courts on the matter.
The statement urged party members to remain calm, resolute, and committed, stressing that there was no cause for alarm. It further reaffirmed that the party’s “REBIRTH” movement remains firmly on course.
