Renowned Evangelist Rev. Uma Ukpai Reportedly Passes On at 80

International evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has reportedly passed on at the age of 80. His death, which allegedly occurred on October 6, 2025, has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s Christian community and social media.

Tributes Pour In for the Global Evangelist

The news of Rev. Ukpai’s passing began circulating online on Sunday after a cryptic post by Prophet Joel Ogebe on X (formerly Twitter) stated: “A giant has gone to be with the Lord. My father, my father, the chariot of Israel. Heaven rejoices. Uyo.”

Although Ogebe did not mention any names, many users linked the message to the revered evangelist, who was based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Shortly afterward, Church Gist, a popular Christian media platform, posted on Facebook:

“A GENERAL TAKES A BOW! EVANGELIST UMA UKPAI HAS GONE TO BE WITH THE LORD. REST IN POWER, SIR.”

Family Confirms His Passing

According to a family statement sighted by The Bureau News, Rev. Ukpai died peacefully at 80 after a brief illness. The statement described him as “a faithful soldier of the Lord” who dedicated more than six decades to preaching, healing, and evangelism across Nigeria and beyond.

“He lived a life fully committed to the gospel and to the service of humanity. His passion for revival and the unity of the church will continue to inspire generations,” the statement read.

Burial arrangements are expected to be announced later by the family and the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association.

Legacy of Faith and Evangelism

Born in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, in 1945, Rev. Uma Ukpai rose to national prominence through his crusades and Christian leadership programs, many of which drew thousands of worshippers. His ministry, headquartered in Uyo, has for decades been a symbol of unity across denominations in Nigeria.

He was also a frequent speaker at national Christian gatherings and founder of the Uma Ukpai College of Business and Theology. His work extended beyond the pulpit to include humanitarian and educational initiatives.

Across social media, tributes have poured in from church leaders, political figures, and followers, describing him as “a torchbearer of revival,” “a man of unshakable faith,” and “a father in the faith whose impact transcends generations.”
