Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to ten protesters accused of intimidating President Bola Tinubu’s administration by allegedly attacking government infrastructure during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests. Each defendant was granted a N10 million bail, amounting to a total of N100 million.
Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided over the case, delivered the ruling on September 11, 2024. This followed the bail application presented during the proceedings earlier this month, on September 2, 2024. The accused, including Mr. Opaluwa, a Nigeria Labour Congress top official, Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye and eight others, faced charges related to their involvement in the protests.
In the court ruling, Justice Nwite agreed with the defense’s arguments and set the bail conditions at N10 million for each defendant. The court also stipulated that each defendant must provide one surety who owns landed property in Abuja, with relevant property documents submitted to the court as part of the bail requirements.
The case has drawn significant attention due to its connection to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance movement, which has raised concerns about governance, security, and accountability in Nigeria.
