Tony Aziegbemi, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman for Edo state, was abducted by a group of armed individuals close to his Benin City residence; he has since been released.
Early on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in the early hours of the day, his kidnappers released him. About three in the morning, Aziegbemi went back to his home in Benin City.
In a phone interview with Channels Television, Crusoe Osagie, the governor of Edo State’s special adviser for media initiatives, verified the release.
The federal constituency of Edo State known as Esan North-East/Esan South-East was represented by the former member of the House of Representatives. On the evening of Friday, March 16, 2024, his kidnappers, who drove two Toyota Corollas, reportedly followed him before seizing him.
Around eleven p.m. that evening, the gunmen stopped Aziegbemi’s sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Osaro Street.
