The Delta State Government has banned illegal mining in Ugbolu Mile Five, Asaba, and other parts of the state, The Bureau Newspaper has gathered.
Addressing reporters in Asaba, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said illegal mining activities have caused severe environmental degradation in these areas.
Government Cracks Down on Illegal Miners
Findings by The Bureau Newspaper indicate that the unregulated excavation has significantly altered the landscape of Ugbolu Mile Five, creating deep holes and valleys that threaten future urban development.
- Illegal miners have been warned to desist immediately or face arrest and prosecution.

Delta Government’s Commitment to Development
Sources confirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is spearheading major infrastructural projects aimed at improving Delta State’s landscape and economy.
- Ongoing rehabilitation of Ogbeogonogo Nnebisi Road from Interbau Roundabout to Abraka.
- Road construction and educational infrastructure development across the three senatorial districts.
- Ughelli-Asaba Road and Ohoror-Bomadi Road (47km) receiving significant attention.

During the briefing, Mr. Aniagwu also took a swipe at former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, accusing him of spreading false narratives about the government’s performance.

- Okontu-Ogulaha Road (12.5km) under reconstruction.
- Benikrukru and Okerenkoko internal roads in Warri South-West ongoing.
- Ogbudugbudu-Ogbeinbiri Road in Warri North under construction.
- Trans Warri-Ode-Itsekiri road and bridges progressing under a contract ensuring N1 billion monthly disbursement.
- Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads, Esisi Road in Warri South completed.
- Omadino Technical College nearing completion.
