Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has issued a directive for the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, along with other military chiefs, to relocate to Sokoto State to spearhead efforts aimed at eradicating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the North-West region.

This directive, announced in a statement by Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, is part of the government’s intensified strategy to address the escalating security challenges in the region.

The government expressed deep concern over the continued activities of terrorists and bandits in the North-West, particularly in Sokoto and its neighboring states. The deployment of top military officials underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the area.

While addressing the situation, Dr. Matawalle emphasized the urgency of the mission, particularly the need to neutralize notorious bandit leader Bello Turji and his gang. He referred to a recent incident where bandits circulated videos of a Nigerian military armored vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, celebrating their temporary success.

“This is not acceptable as President Bola Tinubu has been giving great support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Matawalle stated. He assured the public that the government is prepared to deploy all necessary assets to eliminate these criminal elements and restore peace to the affected communities.

The minister also highlighted the importance of moving against these terrorists to ensure the safety and freedom of movement for residents. “The time is up for these bandits and terrorists as increased and consistent operations will weaken all their bases,” he declared.

Dr. Matawalle further assured the people of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, as well as the entire North-West region, that security forces would intensify their operations until the bandits are completely flushed out. He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces, reiterating that the security and well-being of the people remain the government’s top priority.
