NNPC Refutes Claims of Selling Substandard Petrol
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed allegations that it sells substandard petrol with a high burn rate.
In a statement on Saturday, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye debunked a viral video that claimed its petrol burns faster than Dangote refinery’s product.
The Viral Experiment
A content creator had claimed in a video that he purchased a litre of Dangote petrol from MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, at N925, and a litre from NNPC in Ojodu Berger at N945.
He then poured both fuels into separate generators, stating that:
- The generator running on Dangote petrol lasted 33 minutes
- The one with NNPC fuel stopped after 17 minutes
NNPC’s Response
NNPC dismissed the claim as baseless and misleading, stating that:
- The experiment was unverified, amateurish, and lacked professional oversight
- Its fuel is carefully formulated for optimal efficiency and durability
- A significant percentage of PMS sold at NNPC stations in Lagos comes from Dangote Refinery
The company warned against deliberate misinformation, labeling the video as an attempt by economic saboteurs to damage its reputation.
NNPC Threatens Legal Action
NNPC declared that it will take legal action against individuals spreading falsehoods about its brand and operations.
“The public should disregard such fabricated content and rely on verified sources for accurate information,” the statement added.
