KATSINA — Tragedy struck Matazu town in Katsina State on Thursday night when armed bandits stormed a mosque during Isha prayer, leaving several worshippers dead and others wounded.

Eyewitness Account of the Attack

Security analyst Bakatsine confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the gunmen invaded the mosque while prayers were ongoing.

“Yesterday night, bandits attacked Matazu town in Katsina State, during Isha prayer, killing and injuring worshippers. Gov’t must act urgently because the attacks on worshippers in the northwest region are becoming too frequent,” Bakatsine wrote.

Growing Security Concerns in Northwest Nigeria

The attack highlights the rising wave of insecurity across northwest Nigeria, where bandits have increasingly targeted rural communities, schools, and places of worship. Residents have repeatedly called on government and security agencies to step up interventions.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Katsina State are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.
