President Tinubu Honors Super Eagles with National Awards and Lands for AFCON Performance
On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu bestowed the Super Eagles of Nigeria with the prestigious national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), alongside flats in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and parcels of land. This announcement was made during a reception for the players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the Presidential Villa’s Council Chamber in Abuja, led by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.
The Super Eagles, who recently clinched the runners-up position at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Côte d’Ivoire, were honored for their exemplary performance throughout the tournament. The entire team, dressed in their national green attire, including Alex Iwobi who had been subjected to cyber attacks following the final match against Cote d’Ivoire, attended the event.
In a press release from Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu praised the team, coaching staff, and management for their dedication, hard work, and the sacrifices made to achieve such a significant milestone in the tournament. He highlighted the challenges the team overcame and their progressively stellar performances leading up to the finals.
President Tinubu called on all Nigerians to remain positive, noting that the team’s efforts had earned the nation admiration across Africa and the world for their tenacity, discipline, and determination on the pitch. He emphasized that the event should serve as a catalyst for unity and harder work, reflecting the resilience, joy, hope, duty, and undying love that the Nigerian flag symbolizes.
Addressing the youth, President Tinubu encouraged those showcasing their talents in football across communities to continue in their endeavors, assuring them of his administration’s support in realizing their dreams. “My administration is here to make dreams come true,” he affirmed, motivating aspiring footballers to aim for greatness.
