Former senator and social activist, Shehu Sani, has called on the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to look into allegations that the Ivory Coast national team’s goalkeeper, Yahia Fofana, used “juju” (charm) during the recently concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON). Sani expressed his concerns on social media, suggesting that if FIFA does not address the issue, future competitions might see teams accompanied by their native doctors.
The allegations stem from a video circulating on social media, which purportedly shows an object believed to be associated with fetish practices tied around Fofana’s waist during a match. The object, described as a black material secured with a white rope, was reportedly visible at the back of the goalkeeper.
This controversy arises in the wake of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, facing defeat in the AFCON final match against Ivory Coast, as reported by SaharaReporters. Despite the disappointment, team captain Ahmad Musa praised the team’s resilience and determination throughout the tournament.
