KANO – The Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, has strongly condemned the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as an assault on democracy and an abuse of electoral rights.
Dungurawa accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of using executive powers to suppress opposition and manipulate the political landscape in Rivers State. He argued that such actions undermine Nigeria’s democratic principles and set a dangerous precedent for future elections.
“The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State is nothing but democratic robbery,” Dungurawa said. “President Tinubu has clearly demonstrated bias and undemocratic tendencies, which pose a serious threat to the country’s democracy.”
The NNPP chairman insisted that the move was politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices in the state. He called on Nigerians and pro-democracy advocates to resist any attempt to use state power to interfere with electoral outcomes.
Dungurawa further urged the international community to take note of the developments in Rivers State, warning that allowing such actions to go unchallenged could embolden further abuses of power across the country.
The political crisis in Rivers State continues to generate widespread reactions, with opposition parties and civil society groups raising concerns over the implications for Nigeria’s democratic process.
