Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the federal government’s commitment to supporting local farmers through targeted interventions, including single-digit loans, to reduce production costs and tackle Nigeria’s food security challenges.

Speaking at the steering committee meeting of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU) at the Presidential Villa, Shettima emphasized the need for strategic government support to cushion farmers from economic pressures.

“We need to support our local farmers. Give them single-digit loans. The Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit has metamorphosed into an incubator beyond being an advisory body,” Shettima said.

Governors to Engage Brazilian Delegation on Food Security

According to a statement signed by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima directed Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru to engage with a Brazilian delegation to address food security concerns.

Governor Nwifuru stressed the need for clear priorities for farmers and better planning before each farming season.

Meanwhile, Marion Moon, Technical Assistant to the President on Agriculture and PFSCU coordinator, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making food affordable for all citizens while incentivizing increased production to maintain food stability.
