The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced the establishment of a Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC) to transform hydrocarbon operations in Nigeria. This groundbreaking initiative is spearheaded by NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS) and aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to enhance efficiency and increase production in the oil and gas sector.
A Unified Platform for Oil Monitoring
The PMCC serves as a centralised platform for tracking hydrocarbon molecules from production to export terminals across Joint Ventures (JVs) and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs). According to Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the system consolidates real-time data from various operators to provide a comprehensive view of production activities.
Key benefits include:
- Timely Detection of Anomalies: Ensures swift identification and resolution of disruptions.
- Enhanced Operational Continuity: Reduces unplanned downtime, promoting seamless operations.
- Predictive and Preventive Maintenance: Monitors equipment performance to optimize asset longevity and reliability.
Driving Efficiency and Boosting Production
The PMCC integrates advanced analytics and data-sharing capabilities to empower stakeholders with actionable insights. By facilitating better planning, resource allocation, and risk management, it enables operators to meet production targets efficiently while maintaining high standards.
Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, NNPC has already increased production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and is targeting 2 million bpd. The PMCC is critical to achieving this goal by driving efficiency and enhancing production capabilities.
Enhancing Security and Collaboration
The centre operates around the clock, staffed by trained professionals who leverage cloud-based solutions to ensure seamless data exchange with internal and external stakeholders. The PMCC is directly linked to the Industry-Wide Security Command and Control Centre, enhancing the security of production operations.
Additionally, it fosters collaboration among industry stakeholders through a secure platform for data sharing, enabling effective problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Strengthening Nigeria’s Energy Market Position
NNPC emphasised that the PMCC reflects its commitment to innovation and excellence, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global energy market. This initiative not only aligns with national energy goals but also ensures long-term growth, increased revenue, and profitability for all stakeholders.
“As NNPC continues its modernisation journey, the PMCC underscores our resolve to strengthen the oil and gas sector and contribute to Nigeria’s economic prosperity,” the statement concluded.
