Zamfara First Lady Sponsors Weddings for 100 Orphaned Girls
The wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has taken a significant step toward improving the lives of orphaned girls in the state by facilitating their marriages.
A total of 100 brides benefitted from this initiative, receiving comprehensive care and attention in preparation for their weddings. Each bride’s dowry, amounting to ₦151,000, was paid by the Governor’s wife, demonstrating her commitment to their well-being and future stability.
Support for the Couples
In addition to the dowries, Hajiya Huriyya provided essential household items to ensure a comfortable start for the newlyweds. These items included:
- Furniture sets: cushions, beds, and wardrobes
- Mattresses
- Kitchen utensils
To further empower the grooms, she extended financial assistance of ₦50,000 to each, intended as seed capital to help them start small businesses and achieve self-reliance.

During the ceremony, Hajiya Huriyya encouraged the brides to uphold virtues of respect and patience in their marriages. She reassured them of continued support, noting that the Zakkat and Endowment Board would be available to address any marital challenges they might face.
