Governor Yusuf Visits Cyprus, Vows to Resolve Issues with Stranded Kano Graduates’ Certificates
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to address the challenges faced by Kano State-sponsored students at Near East University in Cyprus, who have been unable to access their academic certificates due to unpaid tuition fees under the previous administration.
In a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf held a pivotal meeting with the university’s management aimed at resolving the outstanding liabilities and securing the certificates for graduates who completed their studies between 2015 and 2019.
A Critical Setback for Students and the State
The governor highlighted that the delay in releasing certificates, especially for graduates in critical fields like Medicine and Nursing, has hampered their professional advancement. He emphasized the negative impact on Kano State, which faces a shortage of skilled professionals in the healthcare sector.
“This situation has been a significant setback for our children, hindering their dreams and aspirations,” Governor Yusuf stated. “It is also a disservice to our state, which urgently needs their expertise, especially in healthcare.”
The governor criticized the immediate past administration, led by Abdullahi Ganduje, for failing to honor its financial commitments to these students.
“One cannot imagine that as governor, Ganduje neglected to pay the tuition of these medical students, who are desperately needed for employment within Kano State’s healthcare system,” Yusuf said. “It is a shame on him.”
Optimism for Resolution
Governor Yusuf expressed optimism following what he termed “fruitful discussions” with the university’s management. The meeting centered on settling the outstanding fees and expediting the release of the students’ certificates.
He reassured the affected graduates and the people of Kano that his administration remains committed to education and the welfare of its citizens as a cornerstone for sustainable development.
