Tragic Fire Outbreak at Islamiya School in Zamfara Kills 17 Almajiri Students
Kaura-Namoda, Zamfara State – A devastating fire outbreak at an Islamic school in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area has claimed the lives of 17 Almajiri students, leaving 16 others injured.
The fire, which broke out on the night of Tuesday, February 4, reportedly lasted for about three hours before it was extinguished.
According to a resident, Abdulrasaq Bello, the inferno started from locally stored sticks, which quickly spread through the school premises.
“It happened at Makaranta Mallam Ghali, inside their study hall. There were about 100 students in the house. After evacuating some, they assumed everyone was safe. But when they returned after the fire, they started seeing their legs and hands… they got burnt beyond recognition,” Bello recounted.
Victims Buried According to Islamic Rites
A source confirmed that all 17 deceased students were buried on Wednesday, February 5, following Islamic burial rites.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government, Mannir Haidara, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that he was on his way to the scene and would provide further details later.
This heartbreaking incident adds to the growing concerns over safety in Almajiri schools and the need for improved fire prevention measures in learning facilities across the country.
