Double life exposed after phone search reveals ties to terror commanders
Mararraba, Zamfara – A notorious bandit informant, Awwalu Dan Garin Mararraba, was executed by residents last week after irrefutable evidence exposed his dual role as a vigilante member and terrorist collaborator in Tsafe Local Government Area.
The Unmasking of a Traitor
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that Awwalu had long operated undercover—posing as a local vigilante while secretly facilitating bandit attacks. He was linked to multiple murders, including the killings of Rabi’u Bawa (Zafa) and a youth known as Mailahiya in Sabon Gari.
Despite widespread suspicion, Awwalu moved freely between communities, alternating between his vigilante disguise and open association with armed bandits. His downfall came when he returned to Mararraba to retrieve a motorcycle, triggering alarms among residents.
The Trap Closes
- Locked Inside a House: Locals detained Awwalu and an accomplice, summoning Fulani leaders to witness his interrogation.
- Failed Alibi: He claimed his visit was for a “business deal” arranged by his brother, the village head—who publicly denied involvement.
- Digital Evidence: A phone search exposed damning call logs and contacts with high-profile bandit leaders.
Instant Justice
Enraged by years of betrayal and bloodshed, armed villagers opened fire, killing Awwalu on the spot. The lynching reflects growing community frustration with infiltrators fueling Zamfara’s insecurity.
