A man, Kenias Zimbwa, has recounted how his wife allegedly hired thugs, including her soldier brother, to beat him up and throw him out of their home naked after he confronted her over used condoms found in their bedroom.
The shocking incident, which reportedly took place on Zimbwa’s birthday, was brought before the Harare Civil Court, where he sought protection from his wife, Chipiwa Taruona.
“I came home on my birthday to find used condoms under my bed. When I questioned her, she hired bouncers to attack me. One of them was her brother, a soldier. They left me with bruises and threw me out of the house completely naked,” Zimbwa told the court.
He further alleged that his wife had subjected him to months of mistreatment, including denying him intimacy, refusing to cook for him, and making him sleep without a blanket or on the floor.
“I fear for my life. She has attacked me with a screwdriver multiple times. If this continues, she might end up killing me,” he added.
However, in her defense, Chipiwa admitted to hiring the thugs but claimed it was an act of retaliation. She accused Zimbwa of years of sexual abuse, stating, “My husband has been in the habit of sexually abusing me for years. I hired people to attack him.”
After hearing both sides, Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in Chipiwa’s favor and granted her a protection order against her husband.
The case has since sparked discussions on domestic conflicts, self-defense claims, and the role of the justice system in handling marital disputes.
