According to a witness for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, neither he nor President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are eligible to be recognized as the nation’s leader because they did not receive a majority of the vote in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In testimony given while being cross-examined by Mohammed Aliyu, attorney for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he claimed that the 25 percent was a requirement to be recognized as president.
He said that his statement was based on the constitutional requirement when questioned if it was his own opinion.
When asked if his candidate received the necessary outcome in the FCT, he responded, “My candidate did not score 25% of votes in the FCT by the purported result published by INEC.”
He argued that his assertion was based on the law while being questioned in cross-examination by Tinubu’s attorney, Akin Olujimi (SAN).
He did, however, acknowledge that he was neither a mathematician nor a lawyer.
In response to cross-examination by All Progressives Congress (APC) attorney Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Madaki acknowledged that the FCT is similar to other states.
According to Daily Trust, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, received more than 25% of the vote in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on February 25.
