According to a recent announcement from Ghana’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC), pupils will be able to retake their WASSCE exams as early as January and February 2025.
In Ghana, it was customary for candidates to wait for the next cycle of private exams.
Speaking on Ghana’s JoyNews AM Show, John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, revealed this.
He clarified that pupils can raise their grades more quickly with the new program, known as WASSCE PC1.
Students have until January 8th to register online on our website or in internet cafés approved by WAEC if they view their results now and discover they need to retake one or two papers. The tests will be held between January 24 and February 15, 2025,” Mr. Kapi said.
“These reports will provide detailed feedback on where students may have gone wrong and how they can better approach their studies and the examination process,” he said, referring to WAEC’s plans to hasten the publishing of chief examiners’ reports to help candidates prepare.
“To make sure that parents and students are aware, we have extensively promoted this program through banners, our website, and our results checker platform,” Mr. Kapi continued.
According to him, pupils whose results have been canceled can still take the WASSCE PC1 exams as long as they haven’t been barred for malpractice for a number of years.
Due to the small number of applicants, the exams will currently be held in provincial capitals. To take advantage of this offer, prospective participants are encouraged to finish their registration before January 8th.
Nonetheless, WAEC expressed hope that this program will enable applicants to promptly raise their scores and be eligible for the upcoming admissions cycle, preventing a year-long setback in their academic development.
